A man trying to cross eastbound Interstate 695 in Woodlawn was killed last night in a hit-and-run incident, state police said.

According to Sgt. Steve Seipp, the victim was crossing I-695 under the Crosby Road overpass about 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a white van.

The man was thrown several feet in the air and landed on another eastbound van before he fell in the middle lane of the three-lane highway, Seipp said.

Then, he was hit by another vehicle, Seipp said.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy and identification.

The driver of the first van, believed to be a Dodge Caravan, failed to stop.

Seipp said the van, which was being sought, probably has severe front-end damage.
