A taxi driver was killed yesterday morning when he lost control of his car on a rain-slick street in southern Baltimore and slammed into a light pole and a tree, city police said.
Sami Ahmed Khan, 29, of Baltimore was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. There were no passengers in his Checker Cab.
The accident occurred about 11:05 a.m. on Russell Street near the Waterview Avenue overpass in Cherry Hill. Police said Khan was driving a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria north when he spun out of control.
Police spokesman Kevin Entright said the cab slid across three lanes, crossed a grass median, struck a light pole and slid sideways into a tree, with the driver's side door taking the full impact of the crash. Investigators had no immediate information on how fast the cab was going or whether Khan was wearing a seat belt.
