Anne Arundel County's Severna Park and Baltimore County's Dulaney, two schools that always have been in state's classification for largest schools, will move from Class 4A to Class 3A in a reclassification proposed to begin next fall.
Also, Baltimore's Dunbar, a perennial state power in football and boys basketball, will move from Class 2A to 1A, and Southern-Balto. would drop from 4A to 2A.
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association classification committee made its recommendations last week, and they are expected to be approved by the Board of Controls the first week in December.
Classifications are determined from enrollment figures taken in September of grades nine through 11. The four classifications are realigned every two years based on enrollment figures. Class 4A is the largest classification and 1A is the smallest.
Some proposed class and region changes that would affect area teams:
Southern-Balto. from 4A North to 2A North; Douglass-Balto., Dulaney, and Northwestern-Balto., all from 4A North to 3A North; Severna Park from 4A East to 3A East; C. Milton Wright from 4A East to 4A North; Kenwood from 3A North to 4A North; South River from 3A East to 4A East.
Mount Hebron from 2A South to 3A East; Atholton, Centennial, Howard and Hammond, from 2A South to 2A West; Glenelg from 1A South to 2A West; Eastern Tech from 3A North to 2A North; Pikesville from 1A North to 2A North; Loch Raven from 2A North to 1A North; Dunbar from 2A North to 1A South; Forest Park from 1A North to 1A South.
Century, a new school opening in Carroll County next fall, will initially have freshmen and sophomores only and be in 1A South.

CLASS 3A
