October 19, 2000

ABERDEEN -- Groundbreaking for Aberdeen's minor-league stadium will be at 10 a.m. Monday on Gilbert Road near Interstate 95.

Among those expected to attend are Orioles third-baseman Cal Ripken Jr., who is spearheading the project; his brother, Bill Ripken; Gov. Parris N. Glendening, and Harford County Executive James M. Harkins.

In addition to a 5,000- to 6,000-seat stadium, the complex will include a Youth Baseball Academy, featuring six miniature versions of major-league ballparks.

Minor-league baseball is expected to be played at the stadium beginning in 2001.
