Police Department to be reaccredited in ceremony Tuesday

The Howard County Police Department will be recognized at 2 p.m. Tuesday for meeting standards set by the National Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement agencies. The ceremony will be held in the community meeting room of Howard County police headquarters, 3410 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City.

Police Chief G. Wayne Livesay will be presented with the commission's reaccreditation certification, which recognizes excellence in law enforcement agencies.

The certification requires an internal self-evaluation and a detailed outside review by a team of independent assessors. The department must comply with more than 400 standards to maintain accredited status and must submit yearly reports of its continuing compliance. On-site reviews are conducted every three years.

The Howard County Police Department has been nationally accredited since 1990.
