The Women's Place at Carroll County General Hospital will recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October with several programs designed to educate about the causes, prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Scheduled activities include:
"An Evening of Hope, Laughter and Positive Thinking" at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11. Cost is $10. Cancer survivor Christine Clifford, a humorist and author, will encourage the use of humor in helping to deal with cancer and other chronic diseases. Registration is required.
Free breast health exams from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 14 and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. Physicians will teach women about breast self-examination and mammography. Informational brochures will be available.
Gala bingo dinner at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Gamber fire hall on Route 32 at Niner Road. Tickets are $25, available at The Women's Place. Dinner, bingo, door prizes and raffles are included in the cost. The event, sponsored by the Carroll Collectors Club of Carrolltowne Cards & Gifts, benefits The Women's Place.
High tea and a presentation on "Dispelling the Myths of Breast Cancer" at 1 p.m. Oct. 22. Tickets are $15. Mothers and daughters, sisters and friends are welcome to a traditional high tea and discussion by Drs. Dannielle Harwood and Kimberly Johnston. Door prizes and favors will be given. Inspirations and Hock's Florist are co-sponsors of the event. Registration is required.
The Women's Place is dedicated to women's health and issues and has a Resource Center Library with information on women's health topics.
