MNC Mortgage is renamed First Horizon Home Loan

MNC Mortgage, a mortgage originator based in Baltimore, has changed its name to First Horizon Home Loan, a new national brand name for First Tennessee National Corp.'s mortgage banking business.

First Tennessee bought MNC Mortgage in 1993. Other First Tennessee divisions to undergo the name change include Sunbelt National Mortgage, Carl I. Brown Mortgage and Atlantic Coast Mortgage.

MNC Mortgage, with 27 branches in 12 states, offers residential mortgage products that have totaled more than $1.1 billion so far this year.

News in brief

Home Builders Association of Maryland's and Development Council held its seventh annual Award of Excellence ceremony to recognize excellence in design and quality of land developments.

The council honored David Thaler of D. S. Thaler & Associates Inc., with the lifetime achievement award; Carl Gutschick of Gutschick, Little & Weber PA, as consultant of the year; Comer Construction Inc. as contractor of the year; and Jonathan Mayers of Chesapeake Realty & Development Inc. as land developer of the year.

Coldwell Banker Realty Pros Ltd. opened two offices in Howard County - in Ellicott City and Columbia - that will specialize in residential and commercial brokerage. The firm has five offices in Montgomery County and two in Washington.

On the move

Mortgage Bankers Association of America appointed Daniel P. Szparaga as director for technology in its commercial/multifamily business group. Szparaga received his bachelor of arts degree from Loyola College and his master's degree in computer systems management from the University of Maryland.

Countrywide Home Loans Inc. appointed Eric R. Rosenfeld branch manager of its Baltimore office. His responsibilities will include originating and underwriting home loans.

Winchester Homes, a Greenbelt-based homebuilder, said Steve Nardella joined the firm as vice president for Maryland land.

Century 21 Anthony Gavern Realtors said Fredericka McKnight and Patrick McKay joined its Arnold office in Anne Arundel County.
