Man questioned in woman's death

knife being sought

September 28, 2000

Police were questioning a man last night in the death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, whose body was discovered in her northeast Baltimore house yesterday morning.

Investigators said they do not know how Chiquan Lee died inside a small bungalow in the 5500 block of Mayview Ave.

Police did confirm that her death was violent and that police dogs were called to the home yesterday afternoon to search for a knife.

Autopsy results are expected today.

The victim's mother found the body about 10:30 a.m. yesterday. The boyfriend had been arrested hours earlier, about 3:30 a.m., on an outstanding warrant while he was walking along Frankford Avenue with a 4-month-old child in his arms.

Details of the arrest warrant could not be learned yesterday. Sources said that the man told officers where he lived, but that when police went to the house to find someone to care for the child, no one answered the door. Believing that nothing was amiss at the home, police placed the child with the Department of Social Services.

The suspect had not been charged in Lee's death last night.
