Down Under: white beaches, orange hot dogs

Summer Olympics

September 25, 2000|By Bill Glauber

You gotta love a ballpark where there's a great view from the bar, where the popcorn costs $1.25 a bag and where "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is turned into a drinking song.

But that's the scene down at the Olympic diamond, the friendliest venue in town. The park is comfy, the play is fast and the fans are nice. They cheer anything, from routine fly balls they swear are heading over the wall to the guys who sweep the infield. About the only blemish are the hot dogs. They're foot-long babies that are roughly a shade of glow-in-the-dark-orange.

That's right, orange dogs.
