Loving books

September 21, 2000

THIS WEEKEND'S Baltimore Book Festival is the nicest new city tradition in the past five years. Better yet, it keeps growing.

The festival, which is free, showcases the writing and publishing that continue in Baltimore. Mencken and Poe may be long gone, but there is no shortage of local authors who keep harnessing the power of the written word, surprising readers with the vibrancy of their prose and poetry.

Many of these authors can be met on Mount Vernon Place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Should you miss them, don't worry: You can always approach them by reading their books.
