Funds for overruns on police building OK'd

September 21, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Baltimore taxpayers will pay $900,000 more for cost overruns on the renovation and expansion of the police headquarters building after the Board of Estimates approved the payment yesterday.

The price of the extra work on the $27 million project -- now 2 years behind schedule -- stands at $3.8 million. In March, the board and City Council approved a $2.1 million overrun as city planners warned that the pricetag for the project, which has been impacted by asbestos problems, could rise an additional $12 million.

But yesterday, police officials told the five-member board, which approves most municipal expenditures, that they don't foresee any further increases.
