Jury awards woman $434,000 after surgery

September 16, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Baltimore County Circuit Court jury awarded $434,000 yesterday to a Fallston woman who filed suit after a surgical procedure left her with throat problems that make it difficult for her to breathe and talk.

Lora Dennison, 47, was awarded the damages after a weeklong trial before Judge J. William Hinkel that focused on a procedure to remove a goiter from her neck. The surgery was performed by Dr. Milton Yoder, a Lutherville ear, nose and throat specialist, according to court records. The jury awarded Dennison and her husband, Perry R. Dennison, $300,000 for pain and suffering, $84,000 for medical expenses and $50,000 for a claim of loss of consortium.

Yoder could not be reached for comment last night, and his lawyer, Thomas Corcoran, did not return phone calls.
