Rangers update

The Rangers enter the two-day, three-game series as one of the league's major disappointments. Though not expected to repeat as AL West champions, they were hardly thought to be a team that would challenge for the league's worst record. Like the Orioles, they own a winning record (37-34) at home but have been pathetic (27-45) on the road. The Rangers remain potent offensively but rank 12th in pitching and defense. They rank last in the AL with three complete games and opponents' batting average (.292). Tonight's Game 1 starter, Rick Helling, is in a five-way tie for fifth most wins in the league. First baseman Rafael Palmeiro ranks seventh with 35 home runs. The Orioles lead the season series 5-4, but the Rangers swept a three-game home series against them May 18-21.
