Paul Smith named coach at Pikesville

Paul E. Smith, a former head coach at Dunbar High in Baltimore and at McDonogh School in Baltimore County, has been named boys basketball coach at Pikesville High School.

Smith coached Dunbar to state titles in 1994, '95 and '96, compiling a 69-10 record. He was head coach at McDonogh from 1974 to 1990, and at Sidwell Friends School in Washington from 1990 to '92. In 21 years of coaching, he has a record of 329-168. Smith was named The Sun Coach of the Year three times at McDonogh (1976, '84 and '86) and once at Dunbar ('96).

His most recent position was as an assistant for the Towson women's basketball team, where he worked from 1996 to '99.

Smith succeeds Craig Amos, who took Pikesville to the state 1A title game in 1999 and 2000.
