September 12, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Baltimore County man shot in Columbia last week has died, Howard County police said yesterday.

Walter Scott Cook of Owings Mills was one of two men shot Wednesday on the parking lot of the Waverly Winds apartment complex. Cook, 20, was shot in the head and died Saturday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

Officers on foot patrol found Cook and Damany Michael Hughes, 24, wounded on the parking lot after police heard gunshots near the Harper's Choice apartments shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday. Hughes, who police said was grazed by a bullet, was treated and released that day.

Investigators are searching for a dark-colored van, possibly green, seen leaving the area after the shooting. Police also are seeking information on two women seen leaving the area in a small silver or gray vehicle.

Authorities are offering a $3,000 reward leading to the arrest and indictment of the individuals involved. Anyone with any information is asked to call Howard police at 410-313-3200 or 410-313-3315.
