Martha Elizabeth Mumley, 57, college secretary

Martha Elizabeth Mumley, a secretary for nearly two decades at Community College of Baltimore County, died Sept. 3 of a pulmonary embolism at her Phoenix, Baltimore County, home. She was 57.

Mrs. Mumley began her career in 1973 at the former Essex Community College, now part of the Community College of Baltimore County. At her death, she was secretary to Dean Ralph Stevens, for whom she had worked since 1995.

Martha Elizabeth Lefevre was born and raised in Detroit, where she graduated from Immaculata High School. She earned an associate's degree in general studies from Essex Community College.

She was married in 1963 to Richard M. Mumley, who survives her.

She was a volunteer with the Humane Society and enjoyed traveling.

Services were held Friday.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Michael R. Mumley of Stewartstown, Pa.; a daughter, Denise L. Mumley of Shrewsbury, Mass.; her father, John Lefevre Sr. of Towson; and two grandchildren.

Alice Potts Harrison, 90, bookkeeper, homemaker

Alice Potts Harrison, a homemaker and former bookkeeper, died Sept. 3 of pneumonia at Ashland Convalescent Center in Ashland, Va. She was 90.

Mrs. Harrison, who had lived in Cape St. Claire for 33 years before moving to the retirement home in 1995, had been a bookkeeper for Regal Shoe Co. in the early 1930s.

After marrying Elwood F. Harrison Sr., a printing company manager, in 1936, Mrs. Harrison became a homemaker .

Mrs. Harrison lived on Abell Avenue in Waverly until her husband's death in 1962, when she moved to Cape St. Claire.

She had volunteered in Baltimore public schools and at St. John's Huntingdon Episcopal Church in Baltimore.

She was born and raised in Baltimore and was a 1928 graduate of Eastern High School. She was active in Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church and enjoyed listening to classical music and reading. She also liked knitting, crocheting and flower gardening.

Services were held Thursday.

She is survived by a son, Elwood F. Harrison Jr. of Ashland, Va.; a daughter, Dale H. Pumphrey of Cape St. Claire; and three grandchildren.
