Carroll man's condition critical after truck crash

September 07, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Westminster man remained in critical condition yesterday after his pickup truck ran off a Carroll County road and slammed into a tree Tuesday evening, sheriff's deputies said.

James Green, 36, of Marshall Drive was taken by state MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after rescue workers removed him from the vehicle, deputies said. The effort to extricate him took nearly an hour, authorities said.

The crash, which is under investigation, occurred at 5:16 p.m. in the 1500 block of Stone Chapel Road south of Westminster.

According to authorities, the teal Ford F150 truck driven by Green was traveling west in a 40-mph zone when it ran off the north shoulder, veered across the roadway and off the south shoulder into the tree.

Deputies have not determined what caused the truck to leave the road.
