September 06, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Virginia man was held without bail at the Carroll County jail yesterday after being arrested and charged in the rape of a 17-year-old girl, court documents show.

Salvador A. Vigil, 22, of Arlington was charged with counts of first-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault, the court documents show.

The girl told Child Abuse Sexual Assault investigators that she was assaulted Aug. 22 at an Eldersburg apartment, documents said.

Vigil was staying at the same apartment, the court papers said.

The girl, who is not being identified to protect her privacy, did not report the incident for six days, saying she and her mother had been threatened, according to the court documents.
