Six are left without home after early fire in Ferndale

FERNDALE - Five adults and a 4-year-old boy were left homeless yesterday by a one-alarm fire that caused $60,000 in damage to their 1 1/2 - story home

The fire, in the 1000 block of Forestdale Ave., was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m. and was brought under control in less than 30 minutes. The cause is being investigated.

The Red Cross has placed all six residents in temporary housing. One resident, Michael Schaka, 23, was treated at North Arundel Hospital for a deep cut on an arm.

Body found in park Sunday identified as Severn man

MILLERSVILLE - A body discovered over the weekend in Provinces Park on Disney Road was identified yesterday, Anne Arundel County police said.

The body of Stewart "Anthony" Garfield, 36, of the 1700 block of Richfield Drive in Severn was found in the woods Sunday shortly before 9 a.m. by a man who drove to the park to wax his car, police said. The state medical examiner determined the cause of death to be trauma to the upper body and classified it a homicide. Detectives are asking anyone who has information to call the Anne Arundel County Police Department's tip line at 410-923-4543.
