Twins update

The Twins had lost four in a row going into yesterday, and 11 of their past 17. Their 31-37 record at home tied Tampa Bay for the worst mark in the American League. They haven't enjoyed the Orioles' visits in recent years, going 5-18 against them at the Metrodome since 1995. The Twins lost two of three in April, a series that included Cal Ripken's 3,000th hit and Ponson's first career shutout. The latter achievement came April 16, when Ponson limited the Twins to four hits in a 5-0 victory. The Orioles totaled 39 hits in the series, wasting 16 in a 10-9 loss. Mercedes allowed four runs in six innings, putting him in position for the win until the bullpen allowed six runs in the eighth. The Twins also lost two of three at Camden Yards. Ponson gave up four runs in seven innings in a 6-5 victory on July 31. Romero allowed five runs, including an Albert Belle homer, in 4 2/3 . Belle also took Redman deep the following night when Mussina tossed a one-hitter.
