Westminster woman charged in bank theft

A 23-year-old Westminster woman has been charged in the theft of $18,100 from Union National Bank, where she worked as a head teller of the East Main Street branch.

Police served Jody Lynn Gouge a criminal summons this month, charging her with one felony count of theft. She is married to but separated from Jason L. Gouge, the 25-year-old son of Carroll County Commissioner Julia Walsh Gouge.

Police said the theft occurred between Jan. 5 and Jan. 13. Bank officials contacted police May 26 about the theft. Soon after, Jody Gouge resigned, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in Carroll County District Court on Sept. 15.

In Montgomery County

Collision leaves two boys dead, three people injured

Two teen-age boys were killed Friday night in upper Montgomery County when a car rear-ended their car, propelling it into a tree.

The driver of the hit car, 41-year-old Andrew Marchwicki, and his 11-year-old son, Luke, who live near Poolesville, were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, said Montgomery County police.

The collision occurred about 11 p.m. in the Poolesville-Dawsonville area.

Two passengers in Marchwicki's car - Brandon Shrader, 14, of Hagerstown and Marshall Robert Lewis, 11, of Poolesville - were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it appeared that the boys were not wearing seat belts.

The driver of the other car, Katherine Hallambauer, 64, of Dickerson, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Police are investigating the collision.

In Baltimore County

Cockeysville man found dead on Interstate 83

A 31-year-old Cockeysville man was found dead on the Jones Falls Expressway early Friday.

John Steven Svehla of the 10600 block of Partridge Lane was found about 1:30 a.m. on the shoulder of the northbound lane of Interstate 83, lying beside a car he had been driving. An autopsy revealed that Svehla died of a ruptured aneurysm while he was standing next to his car, Maryland State Police said.

Police seek suspects in two armed robberies

Police in Anne Arundel and Howard counties are looking for suspects in two armed robberies that occurred Friday.

Two men robbed the Comfort Inn on Old Mill Bottom Road in Annapolis at gunpoint, stealing an undisclosed amount of money. Police said the robbery occurred about 10:30 p.m., when two men with small, black revolver-type guns jumped over the counter and demanded money from a clerk. The men wore hotel towels over their heads.

In Howard, police are looking for two men who robbed the owner of an Ellicott City auto parts store at gunpoint.

The three men suspected in the Triangle Auto Parts robbery fled to Baltimore, where police stopped their car. The stolen money was recovered, and one suspect was arrested.
