August 16, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The driver of a pickup was killed yesterday when his vehicle crashed into the rear of a disabled flat-bed tractor-trailer on the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway in Woodlawn, state police said.

The tractor-trailer was parked on the shoulder next to the fast lane near Security Boulevard about 5:45 p.m., and the driver and passenger were on the flat bed repairing a hose when the rig was struck by a 1985 GMC pickup truck, Trooper Dale Beauchamp of the Golden Ring Barracks said. The impact caused the pickup to become airborne.

The pickup's driver, a 26-year-old Prince George's County man, died at the scene. The rig's passenger was treated for minor injuries at St. Agnes HealthCare, Beauchamp said. Their names were not available.
