Twins update

Despite being sequestered in last place in the AL Central, Min-nesota has been on a roll. The Twins had won seven of nine and 11 of their past 17 before yester-day's 7-4 loss to the New York Yankees, and they remain within a half-game of overtaking Kansas City. They're beginning a 10-game, 11-day road trip. First baseman/ designated hitter David Ortiz has been swinging a hot bat, with 21 hits in his past 41 trips (.512). The Twins have won seven games when trailing after seven innings, al-ready eclipsing last year's total of six. Ponson recorded his first major-league shutout in Minnesota on April 16, allowing four hits in a 5-0 victory that enabled the Orioles to win the series. They had dropped the opener, 10-9, when the bullpen coughed up six runs in the eighth inning. Mussina is 14-2 with a 2.69 ERA lifetime against the Twins. Ponson is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA.
