WTTR-AM plans to broadcast WMC football and basketball

July 30, 2000

WTTR-AM 1470 Radio Sports is expanding its coverage of local sports with the addition of Western Maryland College football and basketball.

Beginning in the fall with the opener Sept. 2, WTTR will broadcast all Green Terror football games, home and away.

In addition to the NCAA Division III football schedule, the Westminster-based radio station is planning live coverage of selected Green Terror men's and women's basketball games in November.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide live play-by-play coverage of these events in response to the growing interest in Western Maryland College athletics in our community," said WTTR station manager Dwight Dingle. "These broadcasts will renew the partnership between Western Maryland and WTTR that goes back almost 50 years."

WMC boasts one of the most successful Division III football programs in the nation, having captured three straight Centennial Conference championships while going undefeated during the regular season in 1997, 1998 and 1999. The squad, which earned consecutive trips to the NCAA playoffs, is ranked in most 2000 preseason polls.

For the past three seasons, WTTR has broadcast the playoff games, including last year's come-from-behind first-round win over Catholic University.

WTTR's announcing team includes veteran play-by-play broadcasters Charlie Beckhardt and Bryan McLean, with John Seaman handling commentary. Seaman is a WMC football alumnus and the former head coach of Francis Scott Key High School.

Each Green Terror broadcast will include an extensive pregame show, airing 30 minutes before kickoff. Games are scheduled for 1 p.m.

The radio station also features play-by-play broadcasts of Orioles baseball, Ravens football, and Carroll County High School football and basketball.

Green Terror football games to be broadcast are:

Sept. 2: Bridgewater , home

Sept. 9: Randolph-Macon, away

Sept. 16: Gettysburg, home

Sept. 23: Ursinus, away

Sept. 30: Muhlenberg, home

Oct. 14: Dickinson, home (homecoming)
