A 66-year-old Landover truck driver was killed yesterday morning when his dump truck was hit by a pickup and overturned on U.S. 50 near the exit for Interstate 97 North, state police said.

Leonard Augusta Tongue of the 3500 block of Edwards St. was pronounced dead at the scene about 7:30 a.m., according to police reports.

Police said Tongue had stopped on the shoulder of U.S. 50 West and pulled into the path of a Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 49-year-old Annapolis man. The pickup hit the dump truck and also overturned, police said.

The driver of the pickup, John Bluford Lee of the 1800 block of Burley Lane, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

No charges were filed in the accident, state police said.

Tongue, a truck driver for nearly all of his adult life, was semiretired, relatives said.
