Investigators seek cause of Pasadena Boatel fire

July 25, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Anne Arundel County fire officials said investigators are still searching for the cause of a fire at the Pasadena Boatel and Beach Club that destroyed about 100 dry-docked boats and damaged scores of others last week.

Estimated damage from the pre-dawn blaze Thursday exceeds $2 million, Fire Battalion Chief John M. Scholz said.

Separately, investigators are trying to determine what ignited a propane leak that caused a Millersville house to explode July 11, killing a woman and critically injuring her husband and son.

Robert M. Sawyer Sr., 74, and his son Thomas Nelson Sawyer, 40, of Glen Burnie remained in critical condition yesterday at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Investigators must wait until the two men are able to speak with them before they can determine what happened.
