Baltimore County Council schedules series of rezoning hearings in Sept.

Baltimore County's four-year rezoning process is entering its final stages, with public hearings in each of seven council districts scheduled for September.

County Council Chairman Joseph Bartenfelder, a Fullerton Democrat, released a schedule of hearings yesterday designed to inform council members of community concerns before they make final zoning decisions Oct. 10.

Under the county's charter, the use of every piece of county land can be reconsidered every four years. This year, landowners, community groups and planning staff have asked the County Council to consider changes to 619 parcels.

FOR THE RECORD - Due to erroneous information provided to The Sun, an article yesterday reported incorrect locations for three of seven Baltimore County public hearings on comprehensive rezoning.
The Sept. 12 hearing for the 2nd District will be held at Milford Mill Academy, 3800 Washington Ave.; the Sept. 19 hearing for the 5th District will be held at Perry Hall High School, 4601 Ebenezer Road; and the 4th District hearing will be held Sept. 26 at Towson High School, 69 Cedar Ave.
The Sun regrets the error.

Zoning decisions are the domain of individual council members. While the county planning board has conducted hearings and made recommendations on each application, council members can reject them. Under council tradition, the majority defers to the member who represents the district containing the parcel.

Councilman T. Bryan McIntire, a North County-Owings Mills Republican, will decide on the most zoning cases this year: 164 cases in the 3rd District.

All hearings start at 7 p.m.

The 3rd District hearing is scheduled for Sept. 6 at Owings Mills High School, 124 Tollgate Road; the 1st District hearing will be Sept. 7 at Landsdowne High School, 3800 Hollins Ferry Road.

The 2nd District hearing is scheduled for Sept. 12, at Pikesville High School, 7621 Labyrinth Road; the 6th District hearing will be Sept. 14 at Loch Raven High School, 1212 Cowpens Ave.

The 5th District hearing will be Sept. 19 at Kenwood High School, 501 Stemmers Run Road; the 7th District hearing will be Sept. 21 at Patapsco High School, 8100 Wise Ave; and the 4th District hearing will be Sept. 26, also at Loch Raven High School.
