July 14, 2000

A Finksburg man was killed and a Towson man was injured yesterday in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 east of Mount Airy, state police said.

Police said the driver of a westbound Infiniti veered into the median and struck an eastbound pickup truck, driven by William Kneavel, 32, of Towson. Kneavel was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car, Gary McKenzie Brightwell, 57, of Finksburg was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m., and the eastbound lanes were closed for about two hours, state police said. The accident is under investigation.
