Braves update

For three days, the Orioles get to observe what they'd like to become as the Atlanta Braves arrive for a three-game series to open the second half. The Orioles have never lost in six games at Turner Field but lost two of three at home in 1998. The last time the teams met, Greg Maddux pitched a four-hit masterpiece. Injuries have affected Bobby Cox's pitching staff. As usual, Braves general manager John Schuerholz has moved proactively to preserve his position, trading left-handed pitching prospect Bruce Chen to the Philadelphia Phillies for Andy Ashby. The Orioles had trade discussions involving Chen for Scott Erickson last month but walked away. Maddux starts tonight after taking a line drive off his right shoulder on Saturday. The Orioles will see old friend Scott Kamieniecki in his second uniform this year. He was signed July 5 after being released by the Cleveland Indians. Right fielder Brian Jordan returns to play in his hometown.
