If you don't golf at Hobbit's Glen - or know somebody who does - you might not have heard of Coho Grill.

The restaurant doesn't have a lot of visibility - it's at the end of Willow Bottom Drive, the road leading to the semiprivate golf course. So its customers tend to be golfers and people who have learned about the 10-year-old restaurant through word of mouth.

Once they dine at Coho, they tend to come back. The food is fresh and flavorful and the atmosphere pleasant. However, the service isn't always up to par. During a recent lunch, our waiter kept disappearing.

Coho Grill overlooks the Hobbit's Glen golf course and has the casual atmosphere of a golf club dining room. A bar seats about 25 and allows smoking, and a main dining room seats about 70. A patio serves another 50 patrons.

Coho is a kind of salmon, and the menu teems with seafood items. Rainbow trout, pan-fried in a cornmeal crust; Atlantic salmon, glazed with a lemon-Dijon sauce; and a salad of mixed greens and grilled salmon are a few of the choices.

But the menu offers more than seafood. Vegetarian offerings include a grilled portobella mushroom sandwich with melted provolone cheese, sprouts and garlic mayonnaise for lunch, and pasta prima vera with red peppers, squash and portobella mushrooms for dinner.

Meat-eaters can dig into hamburgers, New York strip steak, London broil or Philadelphia cheesesteak. Prime rib is available for dinner Fridays and Saturdays. Hamburgers are half-priced Tuesdays.

There are daily and monthly specials. Last month's special was ribs. This month, it's a seafood salad with shrimp, scallops and salmon. Heartier fare is offered in the winter.

Coho Grill, open year-round, is owned by Chuck Sachs, who also owns Between the Bread at The Mall in Columbia.
