Concerts at Longwood Gardens

Listen to traditional music tonight and cheer on musicians and dancers from New Zealand Saturday evening at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa., a horticultural display and former estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont. The performances are part of the gardens' summer Festival of Fountains, which runs through Sept. 2. A half-hour illuminated fountain show set to music takes place at 9:15 p.m. in the Main Fountain Garden after each performance. This evening, the Philadelphia group Gypsophilia presents Greek, Balkan and klezmer traditional tunes. Saturday, the Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre performs at a family ice cream concert. The group will also lead a pre-concert poi ball workshop.

Tonight's concert starts at 7:30 p.m., Saturday's performance is scheduled for 7 p.m.; the poi ball workshop starts at 4 p.m. Longwood Gardens are on U.S. 1, 3 miles northeast of Kennett Square, in the historic Brandywine Valley. Both concerts and fountain shows are included in regular garden admission of $12 ($8 Tuesdays), $6 ages 6-15, free under 6. Call 610-388-1000.

Rodeo show

Round up the family and head on down to the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro this weekend for the Southern Maryland Rodeo. Sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, events include bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc, calf roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. Children will be entertained by clowns, and there also will be face painting and plenty of food on hand.

The arena is in Prince George's Equestrian Center, off Route 4. Hours are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday. Gates open an hour earlier. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate; children 12 and under are $7 and $10; free age 2 and under. Call 800-520-9670.
