HCC foundation chooses board's chairman, officers

Peter Horowitz, president of EVI Inc., was elected chairman of the board of directors of Howard Community College Educational Foundation. The board's other elected officers are Roberta Dillow as vice chairwoman; Herchel Langenthal, managing partner of Langenmyer Co., as treasurer; Edward Waddell, managing director of Cardoni Waddell LLC, as assistant treasurer; Mary Ellen Duncan, HCC president, as secretary; and Nancy Smith, HCC executive director of development, as the assistant secretary.

The foundation raises scholarship funds for financially needy students. The members will serve two-year terms.

UM's University College to hold open house July 26

The University of Maryland's University College will hold an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 26 at Fort Meade, Army Education Services, Building 8601, Zimborski Ave.

Academic advisers and undergraduate programs representatives will answer questions.

Community college to offer class in boating safety

Howard Community College will offer an eight-hour Maryland basic boating class designed to meet state requirements for a certificate of boating safety.

Class topics will include types of vessels, marine weather, emergency actions, personal watercraft, navigational aids and maneuvering.

The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday and July 22 at the college's Hickory Ridge Building. A second class will be offered in August.

The cost is $45 for out-of-state students; $35 for out-of-county residents; and $25 for county residents.

Elementary school to hold registration Wednesdays

Hollifield Station Elementary School will hold registration from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, through Aug. 21.

Parents must present two proofs of residency, a birth certificate, immunization records and a Social Security number.
