New development's name to honor Annapolis history
Madison Homes has chosen a name for its Annapolis development on the downtown site of Anne Arundel Medical Center: Acton's Landing.
Through historical research, the company said, it learned from a 1651 land survey that the site had been known as "Acton's Land" and was the property of Richard Acton, one of the first three known landowners on the Annapolis peninsula.
"We believe the new name is an appropriate tribute to the original landowner," said Russell Rosenberger, president of Madison Homes, which plans to develop a community of single-family and duplex homes, townhouses and condominiums, along with a neighborhood park at the Acton Cove waterfront near Charles and Shaw streets.
The company estimates that the condominiums will be priced from the upper $200,000s, and the other residences will range from the high $300,000s to high $600,000s.
A date for next year's groundbreaking has not been set, but the company hopes to have the development completed by 2003.
