Erving's son's death appears accidental

SANFORD, Fla. - The death of Cory Erving, the son of Julius "Dr. J" Erving, who disappeared more than a month ago, appears to have been accidental, but police said yesterday they will not be able to say for sure until they get results of toxicology tests.

Erving, 19, was found in his sunken car in a pond a half mile from his home. Erving's seat belt was unfastened, but all the windows were up, and none was broken. The car was filled with water.

Police said that nothing they have found suggests Erving died at the hands of anyone else or committed suicide.

An autopsy yesterday "could not determine the cause and manner of death," Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said.
