The crime report is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-313-3700.

East Columbia

Snowden River Parkway: 9300 block, Owen Brown. An employee of Papa John's Pizza discovered an open safe and a security tape taken from a videocassette recorder at 10:54 a.m. June 28.

Five Fingers Way: 5200 block, Oakland Mills. Someone entered an open garage leading to an unlocked interior door between 11:30 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday and took two purses from the kitchen. The purses were later found near the house with money removed.

West Columbia

Wooded Run Drive: 6100 block, Hickory Ridge. Someone entered an open garage and gained access to the residence through an unlocked interior door between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday. A purse containing money was removed from the kitchen.

Harpers Farm Road: 5500 block, Harper's Choice. Someone entered an apartment through an unlocked front door between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 29. The residence was ransacked and money was taken.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Race Road: 6400 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a building through an unlocked front door between 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday in an attempted burglary. A pit bull was missing.

Orchard Club Drive: 6300 block, Elkridge. Someone opened an unlocked bedroom window between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. June 29 and took a jewelry box from a dresser.

Beechfield Avenue: 6400 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a residence through an unlocked rear sliding door between 9 a.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday and took jewelry and clothing.

North Laurel/Savage

River Island Drive: 8900 block, Savage. Two people entered a vacant apartment and were arrested. Daniel Avis Allen Jr. and Melina Vegele Renaud, both of Laurel, were arrested at 8:41 a.m. June 27 on suspicion of first-degree burglary, police said. No property was taken.

Storch Woods Drive: 8500 block, Savage. Someone broke into a storage area and stole luggage about 2:38 p.m. June 27.
