Newborn found dead in closet of Towson house

July 05, 2000|By Mia McNeil | Mia McNeil,SUN STAFF

Baltimore County police are investigating the death of a newborn baby found in a closet yesterday in the 900 block of Beaver Bank Circle in Towson.

A resident in the house called 911 about 6:30 a.m. to report that a 29-year-old woman was bleeding internally.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where doctors discovered that the woman had given birth.

While being questioned at the hospital, the woman told police that she placed the baby in a closet at the home.

Although no one has been charged, it is standard procedure for Baltimore County police to have homicide detectives investigate the death of a person younger than 18 if a doctor was not present.

Police officers did not have a cause of death for the baby, but autopsy results are expected today.

Police would not release other details about the newborn.
