Kemal Sunal, 56, the wide-mouthed actor who reigned for almost three decades as the king of Turkish movie comedy, died of a heart attack aboard a plane that was preparing to take off yesterday, reports said. Mr. Sunal, Turkey's most popular and highest-paid entertainer, died at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport despite doctors' efforts to revive him, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The heart attack happened as the plane began taxiing down the runway. He was to fly to the Black Sea port city of Trabzon with his colleagues and his son Ali to begin shooting a new movie.
