A Carrollton man is being held at the county jail in Westminster after he was arrested in the stabbing of a friend, state police said yesterday.

Kevin V. Hof, 41, of the 2200 block of Carrollton Road east of Westminster was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Joseph Murphy was treated at Carroll County General Hospital for a puncture wound to his left forearm and released, state police said. Murphy said he was trying to talk a man out of using illegal drugs while on a prescription medication for pain, state police said.

Hof was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, using a dangerous and deadly weapon with the intent to injure another, possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia, court records showed.

State police returned to Hof's apartment at 6 a.m. yesterday with a search warrant and seized a 6-inch, double-edged knife, towels believed to have been used to treat Murphy's wound, and a pipe and other suspected drug paraphernalia containing traces of suspected marijuana and cocaine, court documents showed.
