A record April reported at BWI as travel increases

Baltimore-Washington International Airport saw a record-breaking April as more travelers continue to use the airport. More than 1.6 million people used BWI, an April record and the third-highest monthly total in the airport's history. Freight grew by 8.6 percent in April. Passenger totals rose 10.5 percent over April 1999. Domestic travelers increased by 10.7 percent and international passengers jumped nearly 5 percent. Southwest Airlines, BWI's leading carrier, served 521,280 travelers, an increase of 19.55 percent for April, airport officials said. Other strong growth figures were registered by Frontier (86 percent) and America West (49 percent).

Southwest to offer nonstop flights to Buffalo

Southwest Airlines announced that new nonstop flights to Buffalo, N.Y., will begin Oct. 8. Seven flights will be added between BWI and Buffalo Niagara International Airport. At-home flying kit offered by Northwest

Northwest Airlines, the fifth- largest carrier at BWI, and Broadview Media are offering an at-home seminar for anxious flyers. The "Fearless Flying" kit contains a 40-minute video that provides information about air travel, including pilot training, aircraft maintenance, adverse weather and air traffic control. The video details the sights and sounds associated with flying and offers breathing and relaxation techniques to use when traveling. The kit also contains a 30-minute audio tape with relaxation exercises, a handbook and a relaxation breathing tube. The cost of the kit is $69.95, plus shipping and handling.
