Careers in health care boosted by scholarships

Carroll County General Hospital has awarded four $1,000 scholarships to area high school students who plan to pursue a career in health care.

Recipients were Devin Calballero of Mount Airy, a graduate of South Carroll High who plans to attend Frederick Community College; Andrew O'Carroll of Westminster, a graduate of Francis Scott Key High who will attend Western Maryland College; Melissa Henry of Westminster, a graduate of Westminster High who will attend York College; and Desiree Wagner of Westminster, a graduate of Westminster High who will attend Carroll Community College.

Scholarship recipients were selected on the basis of grade point average, letters of recommendation, an essay, history of community involvement and a letter of acceptance from a college.

State health department offers classes in CPR

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at Springfield Hospital Center will offer cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes to community health care providers.

Initial CPR classes will be held from 9 am. to 3 p.m. July 6 and Oct. 12.

A renewal CPR class will be held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and Nov. 9.

Classes will be held in the Muncie Building, Nursing Education Department CPR classroom.
