AL hot corner

June 22, 2000

Quote: "I did a stupid thing, that's all. Sometimes you do stupid things, and I did a stupid thing." - New York's Chuck Knoblauch, on being ejected for throwing his helmet in Boston on Tuesday, not because of another bad throw but after getting picked off first base.

It's a fact: The Yankees' wins Monday and Tuesday over Boston improved their record to 512-17 when leading after eight innings, dating to the start of the 1994 season.

Who's hot: Kansas City's Mike Sweeney had four hits, including a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning, as the Royals beat Anaheim on Tuesday, 8-6.

Who's not: The Royals' Jeff Suppan has been bashed for a team-high 22 homers, two yielding all six of Anaheim's runs Tuesday - Tim Salmon's grand slam and Garret Anderson's two-run job. Suppan also hit two batters in six innings.

On deck: The Yankees don't get a schedule break, moving from Boston to Chicago tomorrow.
