Pride of Baltimore II, (above) United States. 170-foot topsail schooner. Built in 1988. Wood hull. She is an authentic recreation of the early 19th-century Baltimore clipper. She serves as the goodwill ambassador for the state of Maryland and port of Baltimore.
Road to the Isles, Canada. 71 feet.
Simon Bolivar, Venezuela. 270-foot barque. Built in 1980. Steel hull.
Soren Larsen, New Zealand. 145-foot brigantine. Built in 1949. Wood hull. A replica of a 19th-century brigantine, she is featured in the BBC series "The Onedin Line" and films such as "The French Lieutenant's Woman," "Count of Monte Cristo" and "Shackleton."
Witchcraft, United States. 60-foot Marconi yawl. Built in 1903. Witchcraft was re-rigged and moved to the Chesapeake Bay in 1934.
Zenobe Gramme, Belgium. 92-foot ketch. Built in 1961. Wood hull. She serves as a training ship of the Belgian navy.

Kinds of ships
Full-rigged ship, has at least three masts, all of which are square-rigged.
Barque, has at least three masts, two of which are square-rigged, except the aft, which is fore-and-aft-rigged.
Barquentine, has at least three masts, all of which are fore-and-aft-rigged, except the foremast, which is full-rigged.
Brig, has two masts, both of which are square-rigged.
Brigantine, has two masts, similar to a brig, except that the aft mast is fore-and-aft-rigged.
Schooner, has two to six masts, all of which are fore-and-aft-rigged. The aft mast is often taller.
Topsail schooner, has fore-and-aft-rigged masts, with square-rigged sails atop the foremast.
Ketch, has two masts, with the taller foremast fore-and-aft-rigged.
Rigging basics
Sails are fastened to a vessel by rigging, fixed and running. Examples of fixed rigging are vertical masts and horizontal booms (for a mainsail) and crosslike yardarms (for square sails hoisted on masts). Examples of running rigging are halyards, used to hoist sails, and sheets, used to adjust the shape of sails for optimum speed.
