Officials investigate arson that destroyed sport utility vehicle

June 21, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A fire early yesterday in Westminster that destroyed a Suzuki Samuri, a small sport utility vehicle, was intentionally set, possibly to cover up vandalism, state fire marshals said.

The blaze, which began about 4:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Singer Drive where the vehicle was parked, was discovered by the owner's mother. The owner used a garden hose to put out the fire before volunteer firefighters arrived, fire marshals said.

No one was injured and damage was estimated at $10,000.

Anyone with information may call the Maryland fire marshal at 410-875-5450.
