June 21, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Washington Metro train on the Green Line from College Park caused a track fire last night when it hit a metal door from a vent shaft that had been left open in a subway tunnel, Metro officials said. No one was injured, though three people complained of smoke inhalation.

Investigators said the accident occurred at 9:03 p.m. in a tunnel enroute to the Prince George's Plaza Station. The Prince George's County Fire Department put the fire out at about 9:20 p.m.

A second train took 27 passengers to the College Park station.
