A 51-year-old Forestville man was killed yesterday in a four-car collision in Waysons Corner.

Frank Albert Vaughn, who was killed, was a passenger in a Ford Escort driven by Keith Alejandro Rawlings, 30, also of Forestville. Rawlings' brother, Gary Lee Rawlings, 25, of Dunkirk, was driving a Ford Thunderbird that was also involved in the accident.

The Thunderbird was northbound on Route 4 approaching Route 408 at a high rate of speed about 11 p.m. Sunday, Anne Arundel County police said.

The Escort was also northbound on Route 4, just ahead of the Thunderbird, when the Thunderbird attempted a quick lane change in front of the Escort, said police.

The Thunderbird hit the right side of the Escort, causing it to slide across the grass median into the southbound lanes of Route 4.

The driver of a 1996 Toyota truck traveling south on Route 4 avoided the Escort but ran into the median. The driver of a 1998 Jeep Wrangler traveling south on Route 4 behind the Toyota truck hit the Escort's right side, where Vaughn was sitting.

Vaughn was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George's County Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.

The drivers of the Escort and Thunderbird were not seriously injured.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, Judy K. Slates, 44, of West River, was taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries. She was listed in stable condition, police said.

Officer Charles Ravenell, a police spokesman, said he had no further details.
