N. Arundel Hospital names Coker its nurse of the year

June 18, 2000

North Arundel Hospital has named Tracy Coker of Brooklyn Park as its nurse of the year.

The selection is made from nominations submitted by the hospital's nursing staff. Each person named is asked to submit an essay and a manager's recommendation.

In her essay, the hospital said, Coker told how she chose nursing as a career because she wanted to make a difference in someone's life "and show hope in the darkest of times."

"I focus on my patients and make them my number-one priority each day," said Coker, a registered nurse who has been on the staff of North Arundel Hospital for 15 years.

Other nominees for the nurse of the year award were Sharon Phillips of Crownsville; Carol Ackerman of Glen Burnie; Brenda Watts, Elisabeth Howland, Rosie Swier and Anne Kay, all of Pasadena; Helene Rice and Birdy Bartelheim, both of Arnold; Linda Frostbutter of Gambrills; Sandra Phenicie and Jill Grupski, both of Millersville; and Fran Newman of Crofton.
