Woman reports leaving scene of fatal accident

June 17, 2000

A driver who police say might have left the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident has been found after reporting the incident to authorities at Fort Meade.

County police said a 34-year-old Pasadena woman employed at the base told its provost marshal Thursday that she had left the scene of the accident at Mountain and Magothy Beach roads Wednesday night but did not think she had hit the victim.

Evette Morton, 43, was struck by a van and was lying in the road when she was run over by a car whose driver stopped, then left before police and paramedics arrived. The driver who came forward has said she was unsure whether her car had run over Morton and that she left because her son, who was also in the car, became upset.

The incident was under investigation yesterday.
