Ellicott Mills Middle assistant principal wins national award

McDonald's and the National Association of Secondary School Principals will honor David Scuccimarra as Assistant Principal of the Year on Friday.

Scuccimarra, assistant principal of Ellicott Mills Middle School, is one of 55 assistant principals to be recognized. Cathy Bell and Ronald McDonald will present Scuccimarra with a $1,000 check and an engraved plaque for his commitment to young people.

The Assistant Principal of the Year Award recognizes educators for their individual accomplishments to improve education.

County writing contest winners announced

Howard County Poetry and Literature Society has announced the winners of its All County Writing Competition.

The personal essay winners are Chris Anderson of Hammond High, Diana Lai of Long Reach High and Elad David of Atholton High.

The short story winners are Christina Beringer and Cassandra Zaruba of Mount Hebron High, and Emily Grason of Hammond High.

The poetry winners are Jeremy Miller of Hammond High, and Eric Green and Sondra Hellstrom of Mount Hebron High.

Hopkins to hold session about new study program

The Johns Hopkins University will hold an information session about its new Certificate in Nonprofit Studies Program at 3:30 p.m. Monday and at 8:15 a.m. June 21 on the Homewood campus.

The part-time program will prepare participants to meet the requirements of the nonprofit sector. Classes begin in September.

Board of Education to hold meeting June 22

The county Board of Education will meet at 4 p.m. June 22. The meeting will begin with a Listening Post session.
