Pupils collect 400 books for elementary schools

MARRIOTTSVILLE - Eighth-graders at Mount View Middle School collected about 400 books and designed and made 200 bookmarks and place mats to be distributed to elementary school pupils through Baltimore Reads literacy group.

The effort was a class service learning project.

Read-a-thon raises $800 for Habitat for Humanity

COLUMBIA - Guilford Elementary School pupils raised $800 through the school's "Pennies of Love Read-a-Thon" for towels, soap and other items for homes being built by Habitat for Humanity in Columbia.

Pupils presented the packages of housewarming gifts to representatives from Habitat for Humanity at a recent housing fair at Harper's Choice Village Center.
