Annapolis family escapes injury in rowhouse fire

A family of four escaped without injury as a fire heavily damaged an Annapolis home late Tuesday, city fire officials said.

The blaze, which started on the first floor of the rowhouse in the 800 block of Spa Road, caused about $60,000 in damage, said Annapolis Fire Department Capt. Leonard A. Clark.

A couple and their two children, 6 and 10, escaped after the mother noticed smoke coming from a wall on the first floor.

Four Seasons art students to show off mural tonight

Children from Four Seasons Elementary School are scheduled to unveil a mural tonight that they created for the Animal Control Building in Millersville.

County Executive Janet S. Owens, Police Chief P. Thomas Shanahan and the county's animal control director, Tahira Thomas, are expected to take part in the ceremonies at 7 p.m. at the school in Gambrills.

The effort was directed by art teacher Denise Levitine, who was named last month as the county's public school teacher of the year.
